CEO & Founder

Patrick is CEO and founder of Novu Residential Group, focused on the growth and strategic direction of the company, with a passion for developing residential properties that our residents, neighbors, investors and communities are proud to be associated with. He has over 15 years of experience in the investment, development and management of multifamily apartment communities.  Prior to founding Novu, Patrick was CFO for a nationally ranked multifamily and senior housing development company that focused on high growth markets across the sunbelt United States.  As part of the executive leadership team and investment committee, the company experienced exceptional growth and developed over 10,000 units, equating to over $1.5 billion of investment value.  In his role, Patrick was integral in all phases of the project life cycle, including site planning, design and architectural guidance, securing debt and equity, operational and asset management, and disposition activities.  Patrick, started his real estate career with Colonial Properties Trust, a publicly traded multifamily focused REIT, who subsequently sold to Mid-America Apartment Communities (NYSE: MAA).  Patrick graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Accounting and started his career with Ernst and Young and is a CPA.

Chief Operating Officer

Mat is the Chief Operating Officer and a co-founder of Novu Residential Group, where he oversees development execution, asset management and company operations. Mat has almost 10 years of experience in land development, residential housing, commercial real estate, and property management. Mat has spent the last four years at Green Rock, a nationally recognized real estate development company that experienced phenomenal growth over that period in  the development of properties with aggregate mining potential.  Mat managed all land sourcing and due diligence efforts such as budgeting, zoning and permitting, geologic evaluation, engineering constraints, market analysis and environmental evaluation for successful development planning. Mat also oversaw Green Rock’s management of more than 10,000 acres across the southeast. Prior to Green Rock, Mat was on the leadership team for a property management firm that grew from 500 single-family houses to 2,500 single-family houses under management across the southeastern United States. During his tenure, the company’s growth rate over three years was 159% where they appeared on the Inc 5000 list each year. Mat graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.

Tony is the Director of Development for Novu Residential Group focused on sourcing new development opportunities in high growth markets in Texas, Arizona, Arkansas and Kentucky. He has over 12 years of experience in development, engineering and site planning, and construction of multifamily apartment communities.  Prior to Novu, Tony was instrumental in the growth of Green Rock, by sourcing and leading due diligence of development sites across the southeast. Tony began his real estate career and helping clients successfully develop as both a Professional Engineer and Contractor and was integral in all phases of projects including overseeing municipal entitlements, design, budgeting, scheduling and managing all phases of pre-construction and construction.

As Director of Development, Joseph leads the company’s Florida operations, including sourcing and overseeing developments throughout the state, along with Georgia and the Carolinas.  Joseph has been in commercial real estate for nine years, most recently serving as a Senior Director in Cushman & Wakefield’s Tampa office. During his tenure at Cushman, Joseph was responsible for site selection, preparing and negotiating leases and contracts, financial analysis, account management, and leading internal and external project teams. Prior to Cushman & Wakefield, Joseph was in Birmingham, Alabama with Southpace Properties, where he was consistently a top producer and recognized multiple times for professional achievements, including Rookie of the Year and Top 40 Under 40 by the Birmingham Business Journal. 

Todd Ayers

 Todd Ayers serves on the Advisory Board for Novu Residential Group. Todd is a Co-Founder of the Spartan family of companies as well as some previous real estate ventures. Todd has been buying, subdividing, and selling land throughout Southern Alabama since 1989. Todd has held several positions with four large companies that specialized in working with owners to provide land management services, timber rights acquisitions, land purchase agreements, and land conservation programs before he decided to strike out on his own.  

In 1994 he started his first development company that focused on contracted timber rights and purchasing property for the purpose of harvesting timber. He then branched out into buying undervalued land, subdividing or developing the property, and remarketing it at the increased value.  

Todd soon expanded his real estate development portfolio to include multi-unit and rental property investments. Over the last 30 years he has created a large and diversified portfolio of income producing assets.  

Throughout Todd’s career he has started and co-founded 11 different operating companies that have been overwhelmingly successful. The professional barriers he has overcome are vast given his modest background growing up in the small town of Ranbure, Alabama. Todd currently resides in Wetumpka, Alabama, a small town outside the Alabama state capital of Montgomery. He has been married to his wife Tonya for 28 years, and they have two grown children.

Clayton Moble

Clayton Mobley serves on the Advisory Board and is a Co-Founder of Novu Residential Group.

Clayton Mobley is a proven executive who achieved early success with a large multi-national industrial company before founding Spartan Invest in 2010. The Spartan family now consists of six different entities and seven brands, providing exceptional returns with low volatility through investment property as an alternative to the stock market. In 2020, these companies managed over $230M in residential and commercial investment property in addition to obtaining revenue in excess of $60M. Spartan has been recognized on the Inc. 5000 list for eight years running.

Clayton applied the same focused intensity to starting an IBD Sponsor Company in 2017.  This company became the largest sponsor in the industry at over $200M in revenue.

Clayton is a managing partner of Abacus Investments, an investment firm that focuses on providing capital, resources, and expertise to support founders/owners in the lower middle market. Abacus partners with management teams who can benefit from the unique combination of investing expertise and entrepreneurial experience. Abacus Dermatology platform now has 50+ locations in 5 states across the Midwest and Northeast United States.

Throughout his entire experience, Clayton has built four businesses with Total Enterprise Value exceeding $600 million. He also hired and developed four CEOs and eight senior executives.  Clayton is the lead investor in 7 different platforms.

Clayton takes an active role in the Birmingham community and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Birmingham Business Alliance and Innovation Depot.  He also supports Restoration Academy, REV Birmingham, Mwana Villages, and Hearts of Cleburne.  Clayton was awarded Entrepreneur Spotlight in 2014 for leading Spartan Invest and was honored as the youngest recipient of Birmingham’s Top 40 Under 40 Class of 2015 at age 29.  Additionally, Clayton received the BBJ CEO of the Year Award twice: Rising Star Category (2014); Less than 25 Employees (2017).

Clayton lives in Homewood, Alabama with his wife Rachel and their two small daughters, Stevie and Margot.  He graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance (2009).

Chris Devine

Chris Devine serves on the Advisory Board of Novu Residential Group. Chris is an accomplished business leader, having held top management and executive level positions with several organizations. Chris began his career as an engineer before moving into management for an international manufacturing company. During this tenure, Chris developed and managed relationships with large multi-national construction firms interacting in various capacities including engineering, financing, transportation, and procurement for products ranging in value from $9 - $86 million across several diverse marketplaces including numerous continents.

In 2017, Chris took the role of Chief Operating Officer of an IBD Sponsor Company. Shortly thereafter, Chris became the CEO of the company which offered investment programs with a focus on sustainable development and grew 10X between 2018 to 2021. This company became the largest sponsor in the industry at over $200M in revenue.

Chris is currently a partner at Abacus Investments and a founder at Denali Capital. Through his knowledge of real estate, alternative lending strategies, and the construction industry, Chris provides a unique outlook on investments that combine strategies to maximize value. Chris holds an MBA from the University of Alabama – Birmingham and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University.

Brian Robbins, J.D., LL.M.

Brian Robbins is the founder of Robbins Law, a tax law firm headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. Brian has spent over a decade practicing law with a focus on corporate and tax law issues. Brian most recently served on the leadership team for Green Rock, and as part of that team led the company to significant growth in its development of private placement investment offerings. Before joining Green Rock, he practiced law with several of the top law firms in the Southeast region. Brian holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from New York University School of Law, a J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law, and a B.S.B.A. in Accountancy from Auburn University.
